Specialized support and monitoring during your pet's golden years.
Thanks to recent advances in veterinary medicine, our pets seem to be living longer. We can now keep pets that are considered geriatric healthy with the help of medication and individualized treatments. Because we want your furry friend to keep you company as long as possible, we offer a variety of services for senior pets to meet their needs and alleviate the aches and pains associated with aging.
Just like humans, pets all age in their own way, so they can show different signs of aging. The most common ones are slowing down or difficulty getting around, weight loss, vomiting or diarrhea, changes in food or water consumption, changes in urine production, bad breath, and so on.
First, we generally recommend that you bring your aging pet in for a routine checkup twice a year so the veterinarian can closely monitor their health and detect any changes early.
Nutrition also plays an important role in your pet’s aging. A diet tailored to their changing needs can go a long way in keeping them healthy as they age. There are many types of food on the market to meet the nutritional needs of senior pets. For more information on pet nutrition, see our nutritional advice page.
Finally, your pet’s habits may change and they may not have the energy they used to have. Make sure they have plenty of time to rest and adjust your routine accordingly. For example, you might want to reduce the length or intensity of your play time or walks if you notice your pet gets tired more quickly.
